New York City, New York Jul 5, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - An excellent gastroenterologist, Dr. Fernandez works with patients at his private practice in Colorado Springs, Colorado which he opened in 2018. 

Bringing his desire to care for the whole patient, he specializes in colon cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease, biliary-pancreatic diseases, and all gastrointestinal disorders, including reflux disease, irritable/inflammatory bowel diseases, small bowel pathology, and celiac sprue. He also performs all endoscopic procedures: EGD, colonoscopy, small bowel balloon enteroscopy, and ERCP.

Before opening his private practice, Dr. Fernandez was affiliated with Parkview Medical Center, where he was Chief of Medicine. At this institution, he and a group of excellent physicians founded and started the Gastroenterology Fellowship, where he served as Program Director from the beginning.

At present, he is honored to serve as Associate Professor of Medicine at Washington State University. He is also a Board Member of the J1 Visa Waiver Review Committee of the State of Colorado. 

Regarding his educational background, Dr. Fernandez earned his medical degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela in 1997. After relocating to the United States, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in 2007, where he was Chief Resident. Finally, he went on to complete a further residency and fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine in 2010.

A Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGAF), the doctor is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

Throughout his career, Dr. Fernandez has received several awards, including the Jose Izquierdo Award (for excellence in Anatomy and Neuroanatomy - Universidad Central Venezuela,1993), Award for Excellence in Ambulatory Care at the University of Connecticut (2006), Award for Outstanding Medical Services and Commitment in Pueblo, CO (2011) and America's Top Physician-Gastroenterologist awards by the Consumer's Research Council of America.

On a more personal note, he is a dedicated husband, son, and father, and enjoys his free time with his wife, two daughters, and Labrador Retriever. He loves to play tennis, hike, and ski. He is bilingual, speaking English and Spanish fluently.
