Kat Thomas, Esq., has released her new online information package in response to the latest figures from the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), which showcased child sex abuse is a growing problem in the community with one in 9 girls and 1 in 20 boys under the age of 18 experiencing sexual abuse or assault. Ms. Thomas also cites some of RAINN’s more disturbing abuse statistics, including that school-aged teenage girls are 4 times more likely than the general population to be the victims of rape or sexual assault.

Given that 93% of abusers are known to the victim but only 34% are family members, Ms. Thomas also stresses that the statistics show that schools can, sadly, be a dangerous place for children to be the victims of forced sexual acts, inappropriate touching, explicit image sharing and other sexual crimes.

Ms. Thomas sees herself as a trustworthy and committed defender of victims and their families and she believes more education around the signs of school-based sexual abuse is key to the eradication of this crime.

She encourages any parent who has noticed their school-aged child becoming withdrawn, regressing socially, mentally, and/or academically, or who has signs of physical injuries, to come forward and speak to her team. Should Ms. Thomas and her associates believe there is a case, they can launch their own independent investigation.

Should a child have been abused at their prep school, Kat Thomas, Esq. can then sue that school for fair compensation that includes, as she summarized: “Medical expenses (including therapy and counseling), emotional distress and mental anguish, loss of educational and career opportunities, pain and suffering and punitive damages (in cases of particularly egregious conduct).”
